Senior Programme and Communications Manager

The Senior level Programme Manager will be responsible for coordinating, monitoring and reporting on all project activities implemented by CORDIO. CORDIO is a coral reef research organization with a five year Strategic Plan, which is implemented through multiple projects funded by multiple grants and donors. CORDIO is active throughout Eastern Africa, and with partners from local to global levels. The Programme Manager will coordinate and manage the implementation of the Strategic Plan, support technical and administrative staff, manage communications with the donors, and conduct broader communications and outreach. A competitive salary package with benefits is offered for the position at CORDIO’s office in Mombasa. Kenyan citizenship or pre-existing visa to live and work in Kenya required.

Applications should be no longer than two pages and address the following Job Requirements:

1) MSc; environmental field preferred; Additional training, diplomas or experience in management, business and/or communications a distinct advantage
2) At least 5 years track record of implementation of multiple projects in environment, development or related fields, preferably with research activities
3) Proven experience in budgeting and management of donor funds
4) Proven experience in project monitoring and evaluation and collection of M&E data
5) Experience in results based frameworks for implementation of programme activities and reporting of scientific projects, preferably in environment
6) Demonstrated experience in formal reporting to donors and advisory boards
7) Strong communication skills in English required, including verbal, formal written reports for donors, and general media including magazines/articles, radio/video/other recordings, social media presence.
8) Fluency in Kiswahili desirable. 9) Kenyan citizen or permanent resident status in Kenya.

Senior Scientist – Fish and Fisheries Programme

CORDIO is recruiting a senior level research scientist to lead our fish ecology and coastal fisheries research, conservation and management activities in the western Indian Ocean. Applicants need to have strong marine ecology research skills, preferably specialising in reef fishes. They need to be self-motivated, independent, demonstrate an ability to write proposals and to raise funds, and have strong communication skills and a publication history. A competitive salary package with benefits is offered for the position at CORDIO’s office in Mombasa. Kenyan citizenship or pre-existing visa to live and work in Kenya required.

Applications should be no longer than two pages and address the following Job Requirements:

1) MSc in relevant aspects of marine science essential, PhD preferred.
2) Demonstrated history of leading the implementation of research projects including the research design, data collection, data analysis and writing published reports/papers.
3) Senior author on at least three peer reviewed papers.
4) SCUBA certification and evidence of working underwater.
5) Demonstrated ability in a range of statistical approaches to data analysis.
6) Experience with project development and management, fundraising and budgeting.
7) Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
8) Excellent verbal and communication skills in English; fluency in Kiswahili.
9) Experience in fisheries research an advantage.
10) Kenyan citizen or permanent resident status in Kenya.
