Film: Locally Managed Marine Areas in Africa

CORDIO has been working with Kenyan underwater videographer Jahawi Bertolli to produce a short 9-minute introductory film on Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs). The film, dubbed “LMMAs in Africa”, explains why LMMAs are beneficial to coastal communities, how they are established and exactly what they are. It is designed for local fishing communities, donors, government and civil society who want to support LMMAs and spread the word about them. It is also suitable for an audience that is unfamiliar with LMMAs but interested in learning about them. The film covers LMMA experiences in Kenya and Djibouti and is produced in English. French and Kiswahili versions are also available. The film was funded by the European Union through Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Biodiversity Management Programme in the Horn of Africa and IUCN – Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office.
