Launch Event
Our Strategic Plan, 2021-2025
Charting our future
There was pomp and colour during the launch of CORDIO’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025 at Nyali Sun-Africa Hotel, on 25th Nov 2021, a long-anticipated day by the CORDIO team. The launch was well attended by representatives from the government, non-governmental organisations, donors, community-based organisations, academic institutions, and the local community. It was an ideal opportunity to celebrate our great milestones with partners who have contributed in one way or another to our achievements.
The launch provided a great platform to share our goals and objectives with our partners, with whom we will continue to engage and collaborate.
“The county is eager to work with CORDIO in achieving their five-year plan and are looking forward to a continued partnership” – Hon. Luciana Sanzua, CECM, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Kilifi County.
The two-hour event was filled with remarks on the excitement that the next five years bring. Speeches from CORDIO directors David Obura and Melita Samoilys and team leads Mishal Gudka and Joan Kawaka expressed how eager they are to work with partners to ground research within the region to improve policy and governance processes as well as support local marine resource management.
“CORDIO has been doing a great job so far and we work closely in implementing different projects on the South Coast. We support you and we are excited to continue working together” – Dr Patrick Kimani, Director COMRED
The strategic plan defines our focus for the next five years. Our Vision for the future is a ‘Healthy coastal and ocean ecosystem that supports livelihoods’. To achieve our vision, we aim ‘To improve the health and resilience of marine ecosystems and coastal peoples’ well-being in the Western Indian Ocean through research, conservation action and support to policy and governance.’ CORDIO will achieve its goals by marshalling its knowledge and capabilities in science, monitoring and training. We will also engage stakeholders and leverage our regional reach and partnerships.
“CORDIO has managed not only to contribute ideas on coral reef management at the country level but regionally through the WIOMSA and Nairobi Convention platform and at a global level in very high-level dialogues such as the Climate Change COP.” – Dr Jacqueline Uku, President, WIOMSA
The CORDIO team is eager for this new phase. We strongly believe that we all have a common goal and if we continue to work together, we will achieve a healthy coastal and ocean ecosystem that supports livelihoods. The evening launch over a cocktail was a great opportunity for all CORDIO’s staff to meet with partners, colleagues and friends to chat and celebrate the launching of our new Strategic Plan.
We give special appreciation to Norad for funding the Strategic Planning Process.
