Community Based Natural Resources Management

Community Based Natural Resources Management CBNRM is based on the principle that natural resources should be managed by communities who live with and depend on them. It aims at reducing the current rates of biodiversity and natural habitat loss for the sake of sustaining the ecosystem services that support human well-being, in addition to assisting communities adapt to changes associated with a transforming climate. CORDIO has engaged in several projects in the western Indian Ocean seeking to build the capacity of communities to co-manage their resources and increase their resilience; strengthen fisheries governance & management; Improve biodiversity & habitat integrity; Improve income from fishing & other income generating activities and improve community awareness on environmental conservation.
