Delivering lasting change will require close collaboration between fishing communities, government and conservation partners.

CORDIO East Africa will lead project coordination, technical monitoring and capacity building, working closely with the four BMUs and the TAMKIBO JCMA Committee as the primary implementers of co-management measures. The Kilifi County Fisheries Department will provide technical and policy guidance, support enforcement and help integrate project outcomes into county fisheries planning, while the Kenya Fisheries Service will support regulatory oversight and alignment with national fisheries policy.

The Nature Conservancy will provide technical advice on harvest strategies, data-driven management tools, gender and inclusion, while WWF SWIO will support knowledge exchange and regional connections through the Bahari Learning Network.

By strengthening institutions, improving access to fisheries and ecosystem data, supporting practical management measures and investing in inclusive community leadership, the project aims to make fisheries co-management more effective and adaptive. Ultimately, stronger co-management in TAMKIBO can help sustain healthy marine ecosystems while strengthening the resilience of the coastal communities whose livelihoods depend on them.
